TRAUMA
A particular area of focus in my practice is helping people heal from trauma. Struggles with post traumatic stress are rooted in past painful events that overwhelmed our emotional system and for this reason are difficult to process in the present. The overwhelm challenges our deepest sense of who we are and what is real. It leaves us struggling to feel connected to ourselves, to others, and to a lasting sense of hope for living a more relaxed and joyful life. We feel held back by the past, frightened by the future, and lost at sea in the present.
The process of healing trauma begins with building some emotion regulation skills so we do not feel so easily overwhelmed. When we feel more capable of working with how we feel in our body, we can then more easily work with what is happening with our thoughts. Through a process of separating past from present, of learning to live in a relaxed body and work with difficult feelings and thoughts, we gain confidence to move forward into what we most deeply want for ourselves, for our relationships, and for the life ahead of us. Essential to this process of healing is that it feels to you like it is being offered in a safe enough setting, at a safe enough pace, and in a safe enough relationship. I hope that you will reach out to see if I am someone who can support you in this life changing work.
